We knew that when we started planning our wedding four months out that our choice of photographer was going to be one of the most important decisions we would make, especially as we were planning an immediate-family-only elopement and wanted to have our day captured in full to be able to share with our friends and family members.
It was the romantic fairytale-style of Shirleen and Troy’s photography that encouraged us to contact Burnett Photography to capture our day.
Over the next few months, Shirleen was an invaluable wedding planning resource for us, providing us with hair stylist and makeup artist recommendations and answering all of our questions! During the early days of planning, we had reached out to our top choice for marriage officiant and had been turned down; Shirleen made a personal phone call and he opened up his availability for us! It’s good to have friends in high places!
However, the fondant on the cake for us was that a few days before we met with Shirleen and Troy to look over albums and get to know each other, Matt and I found out we were expecting. The timing was perfect and we told Shirleen and Troy that we wanted to announce our news to everyone during family photos following the ceremony! They loved the idea and we had so much fun brainstorming how to make this happen.
On the big day, we felt surprisingly comfortable in front of the camera; there was so much laughter and joking that it felt like we were hanging out with old friends. Our big reveal was a huge surprise for everyone and we are so grateful that we were able to capture everyone’s reactions on film and not only be able to relive that moment, but to share it with our friends and soon, with our little one ?
The morning after our wedding we woke up to some great teaser photos, which was a wonderful touch. We received most of our photos within 3 weeks and over the next week we received the rest, including a video compilation and a fun blog. We have friends who’ve had to wait for 3 months to receive their photos back, so getting them back in 3 weeks was unexpected and so appreciated!

I cannot say enough great things about Burnett Photography. Shirleen and Troy were the absolute best. We live in Florida and planned our small, intimate (only 8 guests) wedding at Lake Moraine in Alberta remotely via the internet and I feel so blessed to have found Burnett Photography’s website. I browsed through all her photos and read a bunch of her blog posts. I loved her photography, how she captured special moments during an event and noticed that she really emphasized the importance of lighting.
We connected nearly immediately via email, and had great discussions back and forth. She offered so much thought and personal insight right off the bat. Once we had a 30 minute phone call together, I knew they would be the right fit! The day of the wedding, Shirleen & Troy were a true dream to work with. They made the experience both fun and relaxing (important because my hubby normally squirms when he gets his photo taken!) for us and captured some truly dramatic images that we will cherish forever.
We booked 6 hours with them, and are so glad we did. Not only do we have fantastic memories of our time in the Banff area, but now we have amazing photos to share with our families and friends who couldn’t join us in Canada for our big day. Thank you, Shirleen & Troy!

My husband and I had to travel from overseas so we didn’t get a chance to meet them in person until the day before our wedding (although we did have Skype meetings prior) but we were so thrilled that they were able to understand our style and exactly what we wanted!

How do you possibly describe the nicest people? I will do my best.
We had Shirleen and Troy do our wedding photos in Canmore Alberta. We met them the day before the wedding just to meet them and talk about what we would like and all that good stuff. They were honestly the nicest people my husband and I have ever met. They were incredibly accommodating and easy going about everything. As long as we were happy they were happy.
Shirleen joined myself and brides maids to get hair and makeup done, she captured some great moments between us and was just great. Then came with us to the hotel to get ready and then off to the church. Troy joined my husband while he got ready, and my husband was very happy to have him there.
During the ceremony they caught every precious moment! I didn’t see or hear them throughout the whole thing!
After the ceremony they took us around canmore for photos. Oh my goodness, they are the most beautiful photos I have ever seen (biased yes but they are beautiful!) My husband and I are a little awkward when we pose but they posed us perfectly and you would never know how awkward we actually are!
Our wedding was July 9th, the next day Shirleen posted a sneak peak of a couple photos and they made me so excited to see the rest.
Aug 1 we received a beautiful video and our photos. The turn around on that many photos was insanely fast!
Shirleen and Troy made us a video of the day that included snippets of video and pictures from the day. I cannot possibly describe how much this video means to me. It is so perfect and wonderful, I just have no other words to properly tell you what that video means to Mike and I.

My husband and I got married in Canmore last summer. When we were researching online for photographers we decided to go with Burnett Photography.
It was just a great decision!
We had an initial meeting with Shirleen and Troy and they were so great and flexible right from the beginning! They were easy to talk to and showed us other pictures they had taken of different weddings.
On our wedding day they made us feel so calm and comfortable. We received beautiful photos from our day, and it was great to have both of them working together because we had lots of different angles from our ceremony.

“We had a couple of shots I really wanted to try and get – and they were excellent in accommodating us.”
We had planned to meet with a couple of different photographers before choosing the Burnett’s. We met with them in their home in Canmore and didn’t need to meet with anyone else – they were the ones.
Our wedding was small – parents and immediate family – but that didn’t mean the wedding was any less deserving of their full attention.
The professionalism of Shirleen and Troy was excellent – they made my bride and me feel extremely comfortable – which I will admit is a challenge as I hate having my photo taken.
We had a couple of shots I really wanted to try and get – and they were excellent in accommodating us.
They became part of the wedding and we invited them to stay and join us for the small dinner in wonderful Lake Louise historic train station.
I would recommend Troy and Shirleen to anyone looking for the nicest wedding photographers with an eye for excellence.

Our Wedding was a destination wedding and took place in Punta Cana. We were going to pick a wedding photography package that came with the resort, instead, we chose Shirleen and Troy at Burnett Photography and so glad we did!
They went above and beyond what we ever expected.
Shirleen appeared at my Surprise Bridal Shower where she photographed the big surprise!!! I am SOOO thankful that she captured it in photos/video putting together a slide show of the day. I can’t tell you how many times I have watched it and cried!
She and Troy were also part of our Pre-Wedding photo shoot where they created an environment for us to feel comfortable to be in front of the camera prior to our Destination Wedding.
Shirleen and Troy have such a lovely spirit, still to this day, they are love birds after how many years of marriage?! Who wouldn’t want to be photographed by Love Birds on YOUR wedding day!
They are always cheerful, happy, creative, and doing everything they could to make your wedding day go easy and smooth as well as supporting us through the mid-afternoon heat… Yes,,, Troy even fanned me with their photo umbrella, and wiped the sweat off my back with a towel trying to keep me as cool as possible!!!! ?
They worked from the morning till the party finished at night, still with smiles on their faces… I even had a moment with Shirleen on the dance floor! These two will not stop! ?
I highly recommend doing a TRASH THE DRESS Session the next day if you have the chance! It was one of our favorite moments in our wedding week!
After the wedding, we received an abundant amount of beautiful photos in both color and black and white. We decided to enlarge 2 of our favorites onto Canvas (40x28inches) and the quality of the photos turned out excellent!!!
We received an AMAZING Wedding Album from Shirleen which we added 2 more copies of so we could give to our Mother’s.
Shirleen also put together a photo/video slideshow of our day capturing it all!! We show it to our guests and watch it often. ?
I, as a bride who went through the planning process, knows how stressful it can all be, but I want you to know you will truly be happy you chose Shirleen & Troy! They were worth every penny…..

Shirleen was our wedding photographer back in August of 2013, and she took over 100 pictures all absolutely amazing!!!
She was a God sent for us.
To this day those pictures are by far the most beautiful pictures of us and in addition to giving albums of them to our family, we have them displayed all over our house.
Our wedding was in Lake Louis where Shirleen new all the best spots for photographs, she drove us around in her car (we didn’t have a car) to nearby lakes to specific spots (she would stop on the side of the road to take pictures with this exotic looking tree, or jump over bushes to make sure the light and angle was right) and spend her entire day with us.
She had some pictures ready for us the very next day.
We were absolutely shocked by how amazing ALL of her pictures turned out.
She did a slide show that made us smile with tears. Without Shirleen we would not have such beautiful memories of our wedding.

“After the first minute of our first phone call, I knew they were the right choice.”
When I first came up with the idea of proposing to Erin in Banff, I knew that we needed the moment captured on film. I had looked at a few local photographers online; not being from the area, the internet was my only resource. I loved Burnett Photography’s online portfolio of work from the start and they responded very promptly after I sent an initial inquiry. Shirleen was so excited about my idea, and was my enthusiastic co-conspirator in making the moment magical for Erin from the start. After the first minute of our first phone call, I knew they were the right choice.
I wanted a beautiful location to propose to Erin. Shirleen suggested a few options and sent some pictures of the locations. We selected a spot together based on a cover story I had made up to get Erin where she needed to be at the right time. Shirleen and her husband, Troy, suggested steps that were left in the woods after Bankhead Church was moved to Calgary. I asked if they’d be willing to decorate with candles and flowers and have Erin’s favorite champagne waiting for us. Not only did they understand my vision and create a beautiful backdrop for photos, they went above and beyond with every aspect.
Later, we heard that another couple had first come across their set up and the Burnetts thought they were us until they mentioned their names! (Devin – when the time comes for you to pop the question, Burnett Photography is fantastic!) I wanted to propose at dusk with candlelight in the background and the Burnetts ensured that they had lighting equipment on site to capture everything perfectly. They set everything up and took everything down. Considering there were about 100 candles, flowers, jewels, other decorations, and not to mention camera equipment and lighting that was no small feat!
After the photo shoot, they were in constant communication with us and provided us a few pictures the next day. We received edited digital copies of all photos within weeks. We had a beautiful photo book delivered to us about a month after the shoot, in time to show our families at Christmas. I highly recommend Shirleen and Troy. Their work speaks for itself, but they are wonderful people and we’re so glad they shared the moment with us.

I thought Andrew’s friend was shooting a “Tourism Banff” commercial and we were going to be extras. It wasn’t until we were six feet from the steps of Bankhead Church and he said “this is all for you” did I understand what was happening. The Burnetts caught it all on video for us to relive. They ensured that every detail was in place so Andrew and I could just enjoy the moment together.

Our pictures are amazing and they are unlike any others. I often find that all engagement shoots sort of look the same; our engagement photos shot by Burnett Photography are unique and incredible.
The Burnetts even conspired with Andrew to pull off another surprise. When our shoot was done, or so I thought, the Burnetts packed up quickly and left Andrew and I to enjoy dinner. Little did I know, they raced to the restaurant so they could capture my second wave of surprise as I walked into the restaurant to see my three best friends waiting for us. I was so shocked, surprised, and overwhelmed that some of the finer details of the night completely escaped me. For me, the night was a blur. To have these photos ensures I’ll remember a spectacular night for the rest of my life.
I am so grateful that my wonderful fiancé found such fantastic photographers who helped make our night even more amazing. They helped him make our special night complete and, for that, I can’t thank Shirleen and Troy enough. I have already recommended Burnett’s Photography to people I know looking for a photographer in Banff or Calgary and I can’t say enough good things about them and their work.”
